On being left alone

There are many differences between performing site specifically and being in a theatre. The one I am feeling the most as we prepare for our opening in Denmark is how much we are left to our own devices. The theatre brings with it a inherent structure. There is usually staff that needs to in the space. You are on a set schedule. There often someone reminding you of what the rules are. To some of you this being left alone might sound perfect. For me, it only adds to the feeling of expectation. When we open tonight it will truly be a first encounter with a stranger. The invitation into a conversation that doesn’t have a language already started as you enter it. Of course at the end of the day all we are trying to do is make something memorable.
